Leeds venue development 'to attract £1.25 billion investment'

Leeds city centre will be transformed over the next three to five years, with the completion of the Trinity Leeds and Leeds Arena projects.

The developments, which include two new shopping centres and a new Leeds venue, are expected to bring £1.25 billion investment into the city, according to the Guardian.

Construction Leeds, which is involved in the building of Leeds Arena, told the newspaper that it is keen to consult with the public in developing the flagship events site, and are inviting interested parties the launch of the Local Impact Programme on September 27th.

Project manager Rob Wolfe said: "The arena project is a significant regeneration initiative that will bring major benefits for Leeds' construction industry and those working in it. The Local Impact Programme will provide details on how businesses can get involved in the construction phase."

Leeds Arena is due to open in 2012. The 13,500 capacity venue is hoped to bring an additional £25 million into the city's economy each year.

Work recently began on the £350 million Trinity Leeds shopping centres in the Eastgate area of the city. The Guardian reports that the scheme will boost the city into the top five UK shopping destinations.
